AUDIT OFFICE,

Right Honourable
sir.
I have the honour most respectfully to
place this my memorial before you for your favour-
able consideration.
1. As Auditor of this Colony I am called upon
to make an annual tour of inspection to Welhalwei
for the purpose of examining the accounts of that
Colony. This inspection is undertaken during the months of July and August, and occupies roughly two months including passages.
2. This being my 2nd year and 3rd Summer of
this term of service I was entitled under the
Colonial Regulations to 3 months vacation leave.
This leave I had applied for and had had granted
me, on the understanding that I awaited Mr. Brayn's
return from leave on the 24th. May.
3. In view of the facts mentioned in paras
1 and 2, and being a married man with a young
family I had engaged a furnished house in Weihaiwei
for 6 months from the let of May last on which date
my wife and family left for the north.
